St. Joe food bank holding inaugural event

ST. JOSEPH. Mo. - The winter season can force those in need to choose between paying their bills or paying for groceries, but a St. Joseph food bank is working to ease those pressures.

Second Harvest Community Food Bank will be holding their inaugural Christmas Wing-Ding on Dec. 20. Communication Coordinator for Second Harvest Blake Haynes said they will be providing 600 holiday dinners.

“Not only do you have your everyday stressors, but you’re also worried about when and where your next meal is going to come, are you going to be able to provide a holiday meal for your family, on top of things that just come up. You see at this time of the year...heat bills, electric bills, propane bills, and it really does create that extra burden on families,” said Haynes.

Haynes said that people with vouchers will be able to claim a holiday dinner. “We gave out 600 vouchers to those that are in need through Second Harvest. We had a couple days of distribution of those vouchers. All 600 have been claimed and spoken for.”
